Welcome to the Friday Ships Blog. Forecast looking good for the weekend here at Shotley and Harwich. Dry and sunny at the moment with a light northerly breeze. Lads in the yard busy with the Ajax’s lifting, scrubbing and relaunching ready for their East Coast Championships tomorrow. For the lock watchers among you the best time to view some locking out chaos is around 9.30 am tomorrow morning as they all attempt to leave at the same time! On another note a rib locked in this morning to refuel called the 999 Coastal Challenge 2014. The following blurb explains.
Our aim is simple, to circumnavigate the entire British coastline in 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes in a small inflatable boat in a bid to raise £50,000 for the RNLI. To date we have already raised £24,000 in donations and many more thousands of pounds in equipment that has been donated.
As a voluntary search & rescue team based in Derbyshire we get called out to water rescues, flooding and search incidents both locally and nationally. All of our team members are all rescue professionals from the Fire, Police and Ambulance services and we all have a passion for helping people and saving lives. We have been operating since 2008 and we are well respected within the rescue industry.
As of today they have raised £35000 for the RNLI.
