Ships Blog 27th Feb 2015

Afternoon and welcome to the Ships Blog. We have had a busy few weeks with our annual two week lock closure and other maintenance around the marina. Refurbishment work has been carried in the main marina ablution block with the floors in both the ladies and gents being re-tiled. Further refurb work has also been carried out in the public toilets of the Shipwreck building. Lock closure this year saw a major reinvestment in the lock control system. The previous system which consisted of a pro logic controller which was nearly 30 years old has been replaced with  a PLC unit half the size and double the functionality! The wonders of modern electronics. The work, which required a very tight schedule for the installation during lock closure, was carried out by a local company called ‘First Field Electrical Ltd’ based near Ipswich.

Other news. Don’t forget Shotley Sailing club, who are situated on the entrance road to the marina, are holding a Coffee morning and Cake Sale this Sunday 1st March,  from 10.30. They are desperately trying to raise money to keep open a pre school nearby which is run especially for children with physical handicaps as well as children with Downs syndrome and Cerebral Palsy.
